Memorable Moments in Motor Racing: Legends and Personalities Tell Their Stories
Over 300 legends and personalities from the world of motor racing share their personal thoughts and special memories Michael Schumacher, Sir Jackie Stewart, Niki Lauda, Nigel Mansell, Sir Jack Brabham, John Surtees, and the late Ken Tyrrell and Mort Morris-Goodall are just some of the legends who relive their most memorable moments in this amazing book.
Many of the drivers featured have chosen not what spectators, commentators, or fans of the sport would see as obvious career highlights, but what the drivers themselves consider memorably exciting, emotional, embarrassing or amusing.
Formula One driver Guy Edwards tells of when he broke his wrists and British Champion Mike Hailwood broke his ankles. In 1975 they were both recovering in hospital. The food was awful, so the two decided they could drive a car between them Guy operating the pedals and Mike the steering. They sneaked out and, operating the car in this way, drove to a restaurant and had a slap-up meal, only to be stopped by the police on the way back probably because Hailwood had his plastered legs sticking out of the window. The summons book was brought out, but on hearing Mike Hailwoods name, all was forgiven.
Wonderfully readable and beautifully designed, 'Memorable Moments in Motor Racing' is unlike any other motorsports book, and gives readers the chance to share something very personal with some of this sports great characters. This elegantly produced book is illustrated throughout with photographs, Jim Bamber cartoons, or Michael Turner paintings. The book includes a Foreword by F1 driver David Coulthard.
The memorable moments were captured by motor racing enthusiast Mike Jiggle, who originally set out six years ago to collect the personalities autographs and favourite motor racing moments in a scrapbook in order to auction them for NARA, The Breathing Charity, which he and his wife Ann are involved in. But so great was the interest that Mike decided to turn the collection into a book so that they could be shared with motor racing enthusiasts around the world.
The royalties of this book, together with the auction value of the original manuscripts, will be donated to the charity NARA.
