You get a real sense of what it was like to fly and fight in close proximity with the enemy in the sweltering heat of the jungle. Well written and observed, it is full of the small technical details that only someone who has actually experienced these things can provide.

I can say with no doubt that this is the best book I've read for years. Only some fiction books by authors like Frederick Forsyth is better. - At one point I left it on a neighbouring in the office, a visitor picked it up and opened it on random somewhere around page forty or sixty. I was later told "...he sat down, and the rest of the day he neither rose nor said a word..." He didn't rise until he had finished the last page, and then his night man did the same thing after him. (Although he started at the beginning.)

Time is short but what an excellent book. I Loved it and will read again as soon as time allows.

The author gives a frank , personalised account of his war and how he saw it as one guy, alone and vulnerable above the tree tops. His combat descriptions take you there , put you in the cockpit , inverted rolling onto the target ... You are there , low level and alone and managing the chaos from above . Epic read. Don't miss this one . A must have.

A whole lifetimes worth of experience crammed into twelve months.I was very impressed with how the author describes how he developed from a "sprogg" into a skilled operator. The book also gives a good incite into the political background, which forced them to operate with their arms tied behind their backs.
